‘VII DrogaKaszubska’ 28-31.08.2014 Łapino
The
very first guests had arrived at ‘Roma’, the astonishing holiday resort, as
early as one week before the event began. Then, day by day there were coming
other motorbike geeks. First comers were Birgit and Michael Przibilski from
Germany, and Michal Mackiewicz from Scotland.
The
final number of guests was 171 people with 121 motorcycles. We were pleased to
have guests from eight countries, including: Poland, England, Belgium, Germany,
Denmark, Scotland, Finland, and Norway. The number of participants was much
greater, and the quality of motorbikes was much better, than we initially
expected.
The civilian motorcycles
were beautifully renovated and shining
and in nice unrestored original condition as well. At the same time we could
admire many remarkable motorbikes from the period of the II World War. In
overall there were 25 different makes of motorcycles which were 73 years old on
average. Over 40 motorcycles came from
abroad.
Michal
Mackiewicz had the longest distance from his house in Scotland to us. He
travelled for almost 1600 miles, but he didn’t go by motorbike. To our
amazement, Mick Small from England managed to get to us riding his motorbike –
Ariel. His distance was 1000 miles
direct to “Roma” and also his friends from Ariel OMC made similar distances .
Clive Warrington with his wife Jo went about 900 miles, which is not much less
than Mick on Ariel did. This lovely couple also mistook the date of the event
and came to Poland a week before. They were happy about that mistake,as they
could have a longer holiday, which made us very pleased as well.
Everyone else registered on Thursday. We found that day exhausting, but still
enjoyable.
On
Friday everyone set off on a road trip and made
90 kilometers. We had a break in Szymbark and visited CEPR there. When
we came back to the resort, the editor Jerzy Kossowski gave us an interesting
lecture about the motorcycles ignition. Later on, everyone participated in the
competition, which we called ‘funny
games’, such as an exciting ‘international’ tug-of-war.
On
Saturday we departed to Oliwa, where we could visit historic Water Smith. Then
we headed towards beautiful Sopot. We had a dinner on a pier and spent a few
entertaining moments by the Baltic Sea. When everyone came back from the
seaside, we took part in three traditional ‘DrogaKaszubska’ competitions;
Concours de Elegance when participants showed off their wonderful costumes from
the old period, and also ‘slow riding’, when the motorcyclist had to demonstrate
their best skills and slowest idling of engine competition.
At
about 8 pm, after all the fun of that Saturday, the party started and the prizes
were handed out to the winners in as many as 20 categories. The results were as
